Miller's Indian Village

Miller Curio Company has been a cherished institution since its inception, weaving together the threads of heritage, artistry, and family tradition into a rich tapestry that spans nearly nine decades.

It all began on July 15, 1935, when Charlotte and Charles Miller opened the doors to a modest Native American and western gift business in Estes Park, Colorado. The entrepreneurial spirit of the Millers was evident from the start, as they packed their unsold inventory into an old 1930s car after Labor Day and headed to Tucson, Arizona, seeking new opportunities for their winter business.

As the years progressed, their endeavor flourished. By the 1950s, the Millers had established a permanent base in Estes Park, acquiring a street front property they named The Indian Village Trading Post. This location became a beloved fixture in the community, selling Native American jewelry, Navajo rugs, pottery, Zuni fetish carvings, and Colorado-themed gifts.

In the heart of these operations were the artisans and craftsmen whose skills and dedication to their craft brought the Millers' vision to life. Among them were dine’ (Navajo) silversmiths such as Jim, Marie, Tom Bahe, Sam Roanhorse, and Elias Martinez. Carlos Diaz, a renowned Tucson silver and goldsmith, was a summer fixture at the Estes Park store, returning to his Tucson shop each winter.

Today, Miller Curio Co. in Tucson and Miller’s Indian Village in Colorado are operated by the Miller family descendents, continuing a legacy of passion for Native American artistry and commitment to community service. As we mark our 89th year in 2024, our family's dedication is fueled by the love for our craft and a deep admiration for Charles and Charlotte's pioneering spirit and tireless work ethic.

At Miller Curio, we do more than sell products; we celebrate and preserve the stories and traditions of the Native American communities whose art we share. We invite you to become part of our story, a journey of culture, history, and family that continues to inspire and connect generations.
